Roopa Vasudevan:
Before this presentation, I had not thought about the ethics of media as a whole and the restrictions we have when we are producing media. The one thing that I remember from Vasudevan’s talk was the short snippet about underlying racism in our tech. To be honest, when she showed us the video of the facial recognition software not being able to recognize a person of color, I was a bit skeptical because that just seemed unreasonable to me. However, I decided to research a bit on my own about this issue, but turns out, it is actually still a big problem. People of color, have higher false identifications than Caucasians. However, to say that this is racism is a bit off in my opinion. Maybe it is and give people the benefit of the doubt to easily, but I found this topic was something that I found pretty interesting.
Anne-Laure Fayard:
During this presentation, I found that this one was a lot more relatable and I was able to think more about my own creative process and how I work with others. I find that compromising with others is one of the hardest things when it comes to collaborating. Because everyone thinks in such different ways and sometimes it is extremely hard to find a middle ground between the two. But I find that if you are able to find a middle ground, great fruit can be produced. Like everything else in life, communication is extremely important. I also find that we must be able to learn how to listen to others and try to understand each other to the fullest extent.
