In response to Sketching: The Visual Thinking Power Tool
All my life I thought sketching was only reserved for those who can actually draw but Rohde has convinced me otherwise. The article in short states that there is no qualification to sketching and that sketching is just another tool for visual thinking that allows us to visual communicate not only with others but with ourselves as well. What really resonated with me was the benefits of sketching. In my own personal life, I didn’t really require sketching because I was mostly taking photos as my creative outlet. But after reading this, sketching seems much more appealing to me because Rohde sets his article in a way that makes sketching a win-win situation. In addition, he hit on points about practice and how that will only make you better no matter where you are starting at. I am terrible at drawing so it is hard for me to visualize myself being good at drawing. However, I have more reassurance that sketching will only benefit me while I am in the creative process.
One more point! I like how Mike put his own examples of his sketches. Most of his sketches are pretty simple but they convey a lot. Through his work, he effectively showed that sketching is an efficient form of visual communication.
